Iowa City used to be the capital of the state of Iowa. Maybe you thought it still was like I did until I remembered Des Moines. Now is your chance to visit Iowa City, and you’re going to have a great time while you’re there. Here is a list of top attractions that you can stop by while you’re traveling Iowa City, IA.
The University of Iowa is one such place, and it is a Big Ten University. You’re familiar with the Big Ten Conference, right? You’re going to be in Hawkeye Heaven. One great thing about this campus is that it’s right around where the Old Capitol Building still stands. It’s in the older part of the city. It’s a beautiful campus, too, and you’re really going to enjoy taking a look around.
Of course if you’re going to stop by The University of Iowa, you might as well stop in the Old Capitol Museum while you’re there, too. You will find it at 21 Old Capitol Street, and you’re talking about a piece of history. People talk about visiting the capitol building just because of the staircase that is there. You’re going to see all kinds of art while you’re there, particularly on the lower level.
The Devonian Fossil Gorge is also in Iowa City, and it’s quite the interesting attraction. A flood that devastated the area also uncovered tons of fossils that were from millions of years ago according to reviews. I happen to believe that dinosaurs are in our much more recent history, not millions of years ago, but it’s still going to be neat to see the fossils. If you are into dinosaurs, and they are very cool, then you want to stop by The Devonian Fossil Gorge.
The Terry Trueblood Recreational Area is located at 4213 Sand Road SE, and it’s a great place to visit with the family, too. It’s a wonderful area in Iowa City to go paddleboarding, and you’re really going to enjoy all there is to do there. You will see that the trail there connects to other trails if you venture out far enough.
These Iowa City attractions are going to be quite impressive for you and your family. You’re going to love getting to travel around to different places in what used to be known as the capital city of Iowa. You might also want to plan a trip to Des Moines after discovering more about Hawkeye History.
